Inactivated quadrivalent influenza vaccine (split virion)
Indications/Uses
Active immunization for prevention of flu & associated complication of pneumonia-related hospitalization in persons ≥65 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Adult ≥65 yr Single 0.7-mL inj in deltoid muscle.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to inactivated quadrivalent influenza vaccine (split virion), egg protein or previous dose of any flu vaccine.
Special Precautions
Not to be administered by IV. Not to be inj into gluteal area or area where they may be a major nerve trunk. Possible anaphylactic reactions following administration of vaccine. Immunocompromised persons, including those receiving immunosuppressive therapy. Guillain-Barré syndrome that occurred w/in 6 wk following any previous flu vaccination. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr. Not approved for use in persons <65 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site pain, myalgia, headache, malaise; cough.
