Indications/Uses
Smecta Symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in childn & infants in addition to oral rehydration, & in adults; chronic diarrhea; pain associated to oesophagus & gastroduodenal & colic disease. SmectaGo/Smecta Strawberry Treatment of acute diarrhoea in childn >2 yr in addition to oral rehydration, & in adults. Symptomatic treatment of chronic functional diarrhoea in adults. Symptomatic treatment of pain associated w/ functional intestinal disorders in adults.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Smecta Acute diarrhoea Adult Ave of 3 sachets daily. Daily dose can be doubled at the beginning of treatment. Childn & infant ≥1 yr 4 sachets daily for 3 days, then 2 sachets daily; <1 yr 2 sachets daily for 3 days, then 1 sachet daily. Other indications Adult Ave of 3 sachets daily. Childn >2 yr 2-3 sachets daily; 1-2 yr 1-2 sachets daily; <1 yr 1 sachet daily. SmectaGo/Smecta Strawberry Acute diarrhoea Adult Ave of 3 sachets daily for 7 days. Daily dose can be doubled at the start of treatment. Childn ≥2 yr 4 sachets daily for 3 days, then 2 sachets daily for 4 days. Other indications Adult Ave of 3 sachets daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take after meals for oesophagitis & between meals for other indications. Mix contents of the sachet in ½ glass of water or w/ semi-liqd food (eg, broth/compote/puree/baby food).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Smecta Fructose intolerant patients.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ history of severe chronic constipation. Smecta Acute diarrhoea in childn must be treated in association w/ early administration of oral rehydration soln. Use could be envisaged during pregnancy only if necessary. SmectaGo Contains small amounts of ethanol. Smecta Strawberry Contains glucose. Not recommended in patients w/ glucose & galactose malabsorption syndrome. SmectaGo/Smecta Strawberry Acute diarrhoea in childn >2 yr must be treated in conjunction w/ early administration of oral rehydration soln. Avoid chronic use. Contains propylene glycol. Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation.
